After playing the role of "Gabriella" in the popular Disney "High School Musical" film series, Vanessa Hudgens, has been selected to play the lead role as the "Beauty" in a modern-day take of the "Beauty and the Beast" entitled, "Beastly". This romance and fantasy film is based on the author, Alex Finn's 2007 novel of the same name and will be shown in 2010.

In case anyone is curious, Zac Efron, Vanessa's real life love interest and co-star from "High School Musical" will not be playing the character of the "Beast". The role will be played by Alex Pettyfer, an English actor and model, who is known as the main character in the film version of "Stormbreaker".
